Teachers providing instruction for students in the 21st century must continuously think on their feet of new and innovative ways to reach these children. My students need four chromebooks and protective screens to help foster learning experiences that are in line with 21st century advances as well as keep our technology protected. This generation of learners is surrounded by a technology infatuated world of phones that talk to us, cars with cameras and much more. This world of technology is all they know. A part of meeting them where they are is bringing "their world" into the classroom. When a parent takes their child to the pediatrician, they don't ask for immunizations that worked in the 1900's. They ask for up-to-date immunizations that are relevant to what their child will face today. The same rings true for 21st century learning. We are no longer preparing children for factory jobs, but for jobs in technology, engineering, and much more. Tools such as Chromebooks help equip both students and teachers with tools necessary to contribute to today's innovative practices. In my classroom, Chromebooks will be used in many ways including learning centers. The list of endless opportunities goes on, but these are some examples. Students will have opportunities to read on chromebooks as well as to play learning games that help sharpen critical thinking in literacy and mathematics. Chromebooks will also be used to conduct research projects in Science and Social Studies. To add to this, students will have opportunities to transfer writing pieces to the Chromebooks as well as improve typing skills.
