I am a school adjustment counselor who works with many of the 380 students in grades K-5. Our school has a very high poverty rate and a significant number of students are English Learners. I do prevention work within the classroom setting teaching social/emotional skills to the general population. I also provide specialized interventions for our high risk students to improve school performance. Many of these students have learning disabilities and/or social/emotional special needs. A big focus in our school is showing care and concern for others. One of the boys in the photo is having a rough day and the other boys are offering him emotional support. I was glad I had my camera to capture the moment.
