In my 13 years of teaching, I have taught in a variety of different types of classrooms, grades, and levels, a common theme that I have learned is that all children learn best in small groups where they can get individualized attention and they can learn using their individualized learning styles. Working with special needs students this is especially important to help meet their needs. I really want to teach using a station model to meet this goal. The groups will include a guided group, an independent practice, a project/game group, and a computer program station. We have at the present time three wonderful purchased computer programs that are compatible with the iPads from my project. I have the actual programs, but not the devices for my students. Your generosity will help my students to have access to actual technology which is extremely motivating to students. The programs that the school purchased are so much fun that the students don't even realize that they are learning. Myon, the reading program helps students find books on their reading level and allows them to read the books online. If it is a book that they want to read, but beyond their reading level, the program will read it to them. We also use a program called Mathletics that is compatible with the iPad. I will have access and be able to monitor lessons, and exams. Students can challenge each other in the class, school or even world wide. We also use I-Ready, a program that determines what grade equivalent they are on in both ELA and math and teaches lessons to help bridge those gaps. As you can see, having access to these iPads will allow my students different forms of information and allow them to meet their full potential.
