Step One: Get books kids want to read. CHECK! Step Two: Get cool seating so kids will know that the library is the place to be to get cool books and have fun reading them. A reading culture is not only about the books, it's about the spaces WHERE they are reading. Our library doesn't have any "luxury" seating for my students to read, so I would love to give them that. Getting students to love reading will help them not only today or tomorrow, but in the future, as well. Additionally, this seating will offer an alternate type of seat if the other available seating is not working for them. This will especially come in handy with my K-1st graders who are not able to sit still in the carpeted story area. Being elevated may help them focus more.
