This school year I would like to focus on providing my students with a welcoming and engaging learning environment. I would like to provide my students with a variety of seating options in my classroom. In my campus, we are departmentalized which means students rotate through four different classes a day. Unfortunately, our students rotate through each teacher and do so without any type of mental break between classes. I strongly feel that for my students to be successful, one of the least things I can do for them is provide them with an ideal learning environment --- ideal for each and every single one of them! Just like us, children too have different ways of maintaining focus and learning. For some of us, a comfortable couch with absolute silence is ideal, while for others standing up at a counter in a noisy coffee shop is completely functional. Same for our students. By providing them different forms of seating, also known as flexible seating, I'll be contributing to more student engagement and active participation during class. I would like my students to walk into my classroom and feel excited, comfortable and eager for another learning day. If a pair of chair cushions and lap desks can make that difference, then I'm all for it. I appreciate your time and encourage you to be a part of our "seat-sational" project!
