Letter and letter sound knowledge is the first stepping stone toward reading in kindergarten. Many of the students who enter my classroom will not know all letters and letter sounds. I would love to use the tools listed in this project to present letter knowledge in a fun way and provide activities where students can self-check their knowledge. These tools will be used in small group lessons as well as literacy centers.
The way a student's face lights up when he/she reads a book successfully for the first time is one of the most magical things found in a kindergarten classroom. Beginning reading is the start of more knowledge, more adventure, and future success for kindergarten students. Beginning in September, I will teach guided reading and students will take home books used in my lessons every night to practice reading. One of the ways to make sure the books my students use continue to be used in the future is to protect the books from damage. The book bags listed in this project are durable and will give my students a safe place to keep the books they will soon be successfully reading. All students in my class will get their very own bag to hold their books in and they will be able to take ownership of the safety of their books. They will be so excited to know that this bag is especially for them and the books they love!
I know that the tools listed in this project will only increase the excitement of beginning reading! I appreciate any and all support of this project for my classroom!
