Research supports students with special needs learn best in reading and writing when able to move or take short breaks in their environment. On average students need a break or the ability to move every 10-15 minutes. In a special education classroom it is my job to meet the needs of all my students. These special stools and balance ball chairs would give my students the freedom to wiggle, bounce, and move if they need to while staying in one location. The ultimate goal is to give these students an option, increase focus and attention, decrease unnecessary behaviors, and improve academics. When physical activity and movement needs are met, students are better able to organize thoughts, follow directions, and attend to the tasks at hand. With the option of the alternative seating it is my hope to see our students be able to work for longer periods of time and overall increase academic gains.
