You can help us to become better readers through your donation. This year, our school will be implementing Lucy Calkin's Reading Workshop. I was lucky enough to participate in Lucy's Teacher's College for ideas on how to successfully implement this in our classroom. Since my students come from predominately low-income households may of the keys to success for this program will not be able to be supplied. With your help, we can make this the first of many successful Lucy years!!
Please help us to become more engaged and successful readers so that we can find success in future years!!
The items that I am requesting are key to the implementation of the Lucy Calkin's workshop. The post-its are so students can track their thinking as they read through different texts. The post-its that I have requested will be used by the students on a daily basis and because these are not reusable will go pretty quickly. The chart paper will be used to make class anchor charts that the students will be able to reference throughout the skill study and the stands will be used to showcase both new and older anchor charts. The books that I am requesting are suggested texts that go along with each unit of study. These are recommended to get students at different abilities reading with the unit themes. The reason that I included them is because our school library does not have them. Finally, you will find some suggested materials for organizing the classroom that were suggested during our inservice. These items include: the literature organizer (for student storage) , a cart with drawers (good for storing supplies for reading workshop), and tape (for hanging materials up). Please help support our success!!
