This year I decided to change my math instruction, after I dreaded teaching math every day last year (not to mention, my students hated nearly every math lesson)! To make my math instruction more engaging, I have changed to math rotations. This not only allows my students to do more than just a math worksheet every day, it also gives me an opportunity to work with small groups of students and provide better math instruction to each student. Our math rotations include a kinesthetic piece (where students get to use math manipulatives, such as: cubes, counters, beans, etc to play math games), a creative piece (where students get to use their math knowledge to create a journal that goes along with what we are learning), and a technology piece (where students get to play math games that go perfectly with what we are learning). The problem is that we don't have laptops to do the technology piece! This has led me to having to do an application worksheet during our math rotations instead. Although that is important to do too, it is not as fun or engaging for my students, as computer math games would be. We need laptops in my classroom, so that we can download Microsoft PowerPoint on them, and get access to the math games that I already own. Having these two laptops would provide a more interactive classroom environment and help reinforce the math skills that we are learning each and every day!
