These materials will be used in our music classroom to immerse ourselves in the sounds of nature. We plan on reading the book The Great Kapok Tree as a class. I will also teach students about the different percussion instruments in our classroom. After everyone is familiar with the story and musical instruments, we will act out the story using our percussion instruments. The author said," I wrote The Great Kapok Tree so that children would know about the threat to the world's rain forests and, hopefully, try to save them." This lesson not only teaches music, but teaches the students to be conscious about their environment. I hope that generous donors, such as Tom's of Maine, will help me to fund this hands-on experience for my students.
