"OK, class. It's time for Morning Meeting!" "Boys and girls, let's all go to the meeting area for today's read aloud." "Lion group, can I see all of you the floor for a few minutes?" All throughout the day, students in my classroom are called to meet in our "Meeting Area" for reading, community building, and sharing books and writing. During our Independent Reading time(s), you can find at least 4 or 5 students, sitting on the library floor reading their favorite books. Children love to get cozy with their Good Fit books, but wouldn't it be nice (and much healthier) to be sitting on a new clean rug rather than 20 year old wall to wall carpet that has seen its better days? Sure, our custodians are awesome, and clean our carpet the best they can, however, you can only do so much to dull blue carpet that has endured years and years of little feet. My students would smile from ear to ear to see a fresh new carpet beaming with children from around the world on its borders. They would giggle when they stepped into our classroom library to see animals hopping and crawling along the welcoming rug. These classroom rugs would absolutely be a welcoming addition our literacy rich classroom.
