Learning about the moments in history through vivid language, is another approach to teaching literacy. My students will grow a deeper love for reading books using the "I survived," series to relate to their story. Students will be able to read the stories through the eyes of another kid which will peak their interest. The picture books like "The day the Crayons Quit," will help build fluency and comprehension, while adding humor to keep my kids engaged. Also, one of the most popular series with elementary students is The Dog Man series. We will use these books to find dialogue and then write our own series for practice.
