Technology gives students with Autism and other disabilities a greater voice! It allows educators and students to customize a a curriculum that is individualized to the students needs. We do not have the technology that we need to help our students perform to the best of their abilities. Most of our students are from low-income/high poverty households. Despite the many challenges they face, they look forward to coming to school where we provide creative and meaningful experiences. Many of my students feel frustrated at times when they do not have the ability to express their needs and wants. Technology has helped many of them find their voice. There are amazing Web resources and applications that have been developed to focus on helping students with special needs to learn to communicate and develop common social skills. Our students learn more efficiently through the use of visuals and we use a lot of them. Having current iPads will allow my students to access these tools and resources to develop their ability to communicate and learn social skills needed to thrive in the educational setting and in the real-world. It is helping to make a huge difference in the lives of students with Autism and special needs each and every day!
