The supplies I am requesting for my classroom will help to build an environment that is conducive to all learners. With this being my first year back in the classroom, in many years, I am looking to build my classroom library. The books I have chosen are classic and timeless favorites of students at this grade level. Students will use these books for literacy circles, independent reading and classroom read-a-louds. I will be conducting classroom literacy groups in which students will be assigned a particular novel. Through these readings we will discuss various aspects of the book: characters, theme, climax, vocabulary etc. Students will be able to explore the novels and learn how to read beyond the text and discuss what they authors are trying to convey to their readers. These books will benefit my students not only through literacy groups but also through their independent reading. I am so excited to get back into the classroom and I am hoping through this project I am able to create an environment that is fun, flexible and adequate to all learners. The kidney table will be used for small group reading instruction and writing groups. I would also like to incorporate some flexible seating in my room and dedicate one corner to a quiet reading area with a rug and small lamps.
