Our students range from not-yet-readers to advanced bibliophiles. When you have not yet mastered reading, it is difficult to find books on a shelf - titles and call numbers on the spine of a book mean nothing if you can't read yet! I would like to add a piece of furniture called a library browsing bin to the "Everybody" (picture book) section of our library. These furniture pieces are included in the opening day collection of all new school libraries for a reason - they help students who can't yet read find the perfect book! Much like a browsing bin in a vinyl record store, these bins show the front covers of books, not just the spines. I have had this piece in previous libraries that I've managed and it is hard to keep them full of books - the kids keep checking them out!
