Our percussionists are currently expected to play a variety of instruments such as marimba, vibraphone, xylophone, glockenspiel, and timpani, as well as a plethora of non-pitched instruments. Each one of these instruments requires quality mallets and sticks that are specifically designed to produce the best possible sound. Currently, our inventory of mallets is very low and we simply don't have enough to facilitate the needs of our students or the demands of the music we are slated to perform this year. That is why we are asking for a variety of quality mallets and sticks, which will be used by all of our percussion students in all of our performing ensembles (marching band, concert band, indoor drumline, percussion ensemble, jazz band, and pep band). Having a percussion section outfitted with quality equipment further enhances the overall musical level of the entire ensemble. It also allows for the non-percussionists to enjoy performing more advanced literature due to the trend of composers writing percussion heavy band works. We are also requesting a Zildjian 8" splash cymbal and a Zildjian 16" High China Cymbal, which are needed for several percussion ensemble pieces that we would like to program for our inaugural Night of Percussion concert in May of 2018. We will also perform these pieces at the district and state music festivals in the spring of 2018. Furthermore, these cymbals will be used in our jazz band/pep band performances throughout the 2017-18 school year. .
