Manipulatives are so important to a child’s learning because it allows them to reason and make sense of mathematics with the physical objects they can touch, move, and organize. My students need math manipulatives in order to help them gain a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts through hands-on learning. These materials will be used throughout the year and on a daily basis. From using counters and cubes to learn addition and subtraction strategies to using coins and paper money to learn how to count coins and make change, every manipulative will serve a purpose in my classroom. I plan to use these manipulatives in daily mini-lessons and guided math groups. Having a wide variety of manipulatives will also help me meet the individual needs of my students. With these manipulatives, I hope to give my students the tools necessary to succeed in math and instill a love and enthusiasm for learning.
