Opportunity, access, and options, this is what flexible seating allows students to have in class. Flexible seating gives students opportunities to make choices about where they sit, allowing students, at an early age, to make wise decisions that help facilitate their own learning. Flexible seating also gives students access to both traditional and non traditional seating within the classroom. Students can choose alternatives such as a variety of chairs (soft chairs, traditional chairs, chairs with distraction bands), stools, rugs, standing, or pillow seating. Finally, flexible seating gives options to both the student and teacher. Flexible seating allows the teacher to offer options that increase productivity in the classroom. Research has shown that when flexible seating is used effectively, classrooms show a decrease in behavior issues and an increase in productivity. By donating to this project, you are giving students opportunity, access, and options within the classroom.
