I believe one of the most influential parts of my routine is the morning meeting. At the morning meeting, my students review academic material like the specifics of a calendar, letters and sounds, and number sense. I also incorporate social goals into this time. This includes how to be a good friend as well as responding to personal preference questions to help make connections between students. I feel that the morning meeting is a great structured way for my students to grow and build relationships with one another. An area rug would be the perfect place to hold this meeting. Our classroom has a linoleum floor which is very hard and cold for the kids to sit on. Therefore, the only place for them to sit is at their desks. Having a rug for a gathering place for morning meeting, story time, and whole group instruction would help the students interact with one another and take their learning beyond their desks.
