Students who feel comfortable and have choices within their classroom walls will be more successful. Year after year, students continue to arrive with more and more physical, social, emotional, and academic differences and needs. Not all students learn or listen best by sitting at a desk with hands folded. I want to have an inviting environment that offers choices. Giving students choices gives them power and ownership over their learning. It might be where the student works in the room, how they listen respectfully while the teacher presents information with a fidget in their hands, burning off energy with a pedal bike or how they can work with partners or in groups on a wobble stool or rocking chair. My belief is fostering this type of learning environment will promote teamwork, risk takers, and a room of students working to their highest potential.
