I'm seeking funding for the nonfiction bestseller Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson (2015). This book allows students to engage in a contemporary issue that many students, unfortunately, have some experience with from within their own families. In will inform their writing in class for half the semester. These books help us to dive deeply into the injustices of the prison system helps them to prepare for their AP Language & Composition exam. My intent would be to pair this text with To Kill a Mockingbird as well as other contemporary news articles--we would be able to practice synthesis, research, and analysis easily through this book.
