Although most students are interested in space exploration, astronomy is often an abstract and difficult topic for pre-teens, because most topics cannot be observed directly with Middle School technology. Usually, we use models to explore these topics, but all models have their weaknesses. On August 21, 2017, their first day of Middle School, my students will have the rare opportunity to observe a solar eclipse first hand. This will generate a wave of excitement that I expect will positively influence my students' attitudes toward school and science for the entire year and maybe beyond. The Solar Viewers are CE certified, ISO standard glasses that will ensure a safe viewing experience.
