This year I wanted to create an environment where students are empowered, motivated to learn and could take pride and ownership in their learning. By doing so, I am implementing flexible seating into our 5th grade classroom. Flexible Seating describes a classroom with a non-traditional setting. Normally you would see desks and chairs in rows. With Flexible Seating or Alternative Seating, one may see a child kneeling, standing, sitting on the floor using lap trays, leaning back on a beanbag using a clipboard as a mobile desk. Research shows that when a student is comfortable and have options, they learn better.
