My students are amazing in that they start with nothing and leave with everything! Many of my students do not know how to hold a pencil at the beginning of the year, none-the-less drag a mouse across a mousepad, type in their name on the keyboard or open computer tabs and utilize them. In this day and age technology skills are needed more than ever and its up to me to close the technology gap my kindergarteners have. My school has finally given me 3 refurbished tablets that have allowed my students to work with partners in centers throughout last year. The problem with working in partners on technology is that often times the more tech-savey kids take control. With adding 3 more tablets to the classroom in my 15 minute centers my students will be 1:1 with their iPads and I will be able to better assess and assist students with technology skills. We use our iPads for many things in our classroom: to learn how to swipe, drag and drop, type, read, decode, assess as well as many other skills. We use iPads as intervention tools and to challenge students who are succeeding. We use ipads to watch videos about sea creatures and safari animals to extend their understanding of experiences out of their grasp and strengthen their knowledge to be able to write with detail. iPads help my students succeed in Kindergarten in all subject areas.
