In my classroom, I want students to be able to do two things that I truly believe will help them all the way through college and even the job after: take beautiful notes, and not be afraid to lead.
Given an iPad and Apple TV, I believe I can easily help students do these things!
In my classroom, we follow a lesson cycle that provides structure for the students and fosters a sense of ownership in the students. Every day our lesson cycle includes a teacher model. During this teacher model, I will take notes in a notebook, and students are required to copy this identically. I believe that this not only shows students how to take notes but also shows them to use their notes (which will be something that they will use all their lives). Having an iPad, Apple Pencil, and Apple TV will help me to still write notes as if it were in a notebook and project it while also creating a digital version of the notebook that can be shared with the classroom website for both parents' and students' later reference. I truly believe this will help not only to bridge the gap between daily learning in the classroom and parents but also help when students are absent.
There is another huge benefit to having this system! Students do not understand how to use the outdated overhead system. Given an iPad, when they go up to model or "be the teacher" they will be able to use an application-based system with which they are familiar. Right now, when they go up to model, they get really confused by the overhead system and it creates insecurities that I would love to avoid.
