I am a teacher in an inclusive classroom, so I teach a wide variety of students with differing needs. Overall, many of my students find it hard to sit still and keep attention throughout the school day. The causes for this may be ADHD, ADD, Autism or often it is a reflection of the emotional distress my students are under due to difficult circumstances outside of school. These reasons make it difficult for them to give attention in the classroom, causing disruptive behaviors. Wiggle seats and bouncy bands can help these students get the physical stimulus they need by quietly bouncy and moving in their seats, while still being active members of our classroom community. The cushions will be used by students during independent reading to create a quiet and calm area for themselves. This will also help them be able to read independently for longer periods of time. The cushions will also serve as a tool to use in my "calm down" area for students to sit/lay on while regaining emotional control. Having these options to offer students to move their bodies in an appropriate way in the classroom will help to cut out many disruptive behaviors, allowing students to focus and succeed in the classroom.
