My students need a comfortable, kinder friendly, classroom library to foster their love for reading. My students need a comfortable, warm, cozy space (furniture my classroom library) so that they are able indulge in a good book. I want to make my classroom library a place where my students feel at home and comfortable. This couch and table that I am asking you to help me attain will help to create a cozy place where my students can read. Reading is so important for school success. Independent reading is a major source of reading fluency. (Scholastic: Classroom Libraries Work!). “Reading a lot” is one of the most powerful methods of increasing fluency, vocabulary, [and] comprehension. (Scholastic: Classroom Libraries Work!) This couch and table will help to make my reading block a time where my students are comfortable, engaged, and excited about coming to the library center. Guided reading time is my student’s favorite time of the day and they can’t wait to come to my table or go to the library center in my classroom. When students come to the classroom library, they are able to develop a love for reading that will last a lifetime. The library center provides my students with the opportunity to read for enjoyment, not because someone is making them, because they are so excited and eager to read a book that they are interested and that they selected. This furniture will help to make our classroom library an inviting and relaxing area in which students can come to and curl up with a good book. This furniture is something that will benefit all of my students this year and in the years to come.
