The equipment I am requesting will allow students to talk via Skype with authors of books they have read at school or at home. There are many authors who provide free Skype visits, but without a webcam and microphone, we have not previously been able to take advantage of these. We are planning our first online author visit for March 1st, when we celebrate Read Across America Day. The webcam and microphone will allow students to talk with authors to discuss their books, learn about writing, and hear authors read their books. This helps to get students excited about reading and talking about what they read. It also lets them give a face to the name on the cover of the books they read. The requested equipment will be used for years to come to continue these exciting learning opportunities.
