Students learn best through the use of multiple learning modalities (senses). For many students, the most powerful of these is visual. The use of an interactive SMART board in my new classroom will allow me to teach using current technology in ways that a traditional white board or chalkboard simply cannot. Whether it is showing students how to construct and deconstruct numbers using place value, what comprises a simple sentence, or the interactive exploration of a tide pool, the tools provided by a SMART board are an indispensable part of teaching, and an indispensable part of student learning. With the laptop to operate the SMART board, my ability to instruct, inform and demonstrate in an engaging way will promote student focus, interest and learning. I will use it for all subjects, every day, in ways too numerous to mention. In order for the SMART board to function, it needs to have the software constantly updated and have a computer operating system capable of operating it. My current laptop is at least 10 years old, and can not support these requirements. My SMART board will go unused without an up-to-date laptop.
