This year, I will focus on implementing stations weekly and flexible seating daily in my classroom. In the past, students have always moved throughout the class period through different learning stations. Seeing them engaged during this time made me wonder if I could incorporate that movement throughout the entire class period. Then, the students’ engagement would increase, directly affecting their ability to understand and capture the content. Throughout my career, I have realized the importance of getting students out of their seats and have provided a variety of activities to keep them engaged and learning. I am ready to take movement to the next level with flexible seating. Students will be given a variety of seats to choose from to help keep their mind mathematically engaged. Students will be able to choose from stability balls, low seating, high seating, stools, and stability wobble cushions. All of these options will help students engage their core and have purposeful movement. This movement during class time has been shown to increase engagement and on-task work. I am looking forward to adding this great strategy to my classroom in order to increase student success.
