For children who struggle with reading, exposure to books at their independent reading level is key. When children are able to access a text independently, their love for reading can truly flourish. In our classroom, we currently do not have enough books low enough for our lowest readers. We take library trips and print off passages, but nothing is the same as having access to real books in the classroom. In our Montessori classroom, research is a large part of our work. Children need nonfiction books, at their level, to be able to join in on research. students need leveled fiction and nonfiction books they are able to read independently.
