The students I have prefer to express themselves through storytelling. They have much to say and creating characters help to emphasize their opinions, thoughts and dreams through visual expression. Usage of bright colors in different mediums (supplies) helps them to understand visual aesthetics and styles of art and the importance of color in the world around them and how they work together to beautify multiple aspects of life. They are learning the elements of Art which are the most basic characteristics of any art piece. Permanent markers and such will help them understand line variation (thick,thin) and the importance of Emphasis of particular objects within their works of art to express particular concepts or to guide the viewer's eye. Ultimately, these things help students to express themselves creatively and to tell their stories all while learning basic concepts and aesthetics of art and how they relate to the world they live in.
