This memoir will give my students a story they can see themselves in... it's a quintessential hero tale, yet tailored to my students. I want my students to know others have faced similar struggles. They are not alone. I want them to see a real person who grew up much like they did. I want them to read of his struggles, and how he overcame them all. Also, I want my kids to see the value in keeping their culture alive. Our students have faced it all, struggles with ethnicity, language, culture, sexuality; and this memoir is their story, too.
