At the end of the year, our 2nd graders put their research hats on and become zoologists. They go to our school and classroom libraries to check out books on animals, they research animals online, and even take virtual tours of zoos and animal habitats. This year, I would like to be able to offer all our second graders a once in a lifetime, real-life experiences to see the animals they read about, up close and in person. I want my students to see what a cheetah looks like in person, how big a Polar Bear really is, or what a stingray feels like. Imagine going to the zoo for the first time, and getting to feed a real-life experiences. The experiences my students will get from going to the zoo will help them with the information they need to pour into their research projects. They will be able talk about their experiences with their parents and other students as they share their projects at the end of the year.
