We will be completing an exciting unit on animal defenses. As a culminating activity for this unit, we would like to have our students dissect owl pellets. Dissecting owl pellets would be a great way for students to be able to experience the hands-on science they need. We believe this activity would allow them to apply some of their scientific knowledge they have already acquired. Hands on science experiences can be hard to come by in elementary school. Students love to learn by doing an activity as opposed to reading or watching it and retain it better also. Our students would like to dissect owl pellets as a culminating activity for our future ELA/Science unit. We will be learning about animal defenses, specifically, how animals' bodies help them survive. The students will learn about many different animals and how they are each unique in their own way. Owls are particularly unique since they leave behind pellets that when dissected give us more information about owls and what they eat.
