The healthy snacks (crackers and granola bars) will help the children obtain the vitamins and minerals they need in order to be successful in school. The students do not have access to enough food at home. 93% of the students are on free or reduced lunch status. There are homeless students at the school. It is hard for the students to concentrate when their stomachs are empty. They need the nutrients in order for them to focus on academics. Healthy snacks will help the students come to school prepared to learn and gain knowledge. It is a big challenge for educators to help their students learn when their students say that they are hungry. If the students are lacking food, they will not be willing or able to learn. They need the snacks.
