This project will help provide students with high-level texts they can listen to during an independent station. These books allow my students an opportunity to hear engaging stories, learn important lessons, and provide a sense of independence our students crave. The simplicity of the Me Readers will allow students to listen independently or with partners to stories with familiar characters. The wide range of books will help ignite the students’ interests and help them develop a love for reading. The engagement these titles and characters will provide is just what the kids need to continue expanding their vocabulary and broadening their experiences with reading comprehension strategies. I plan to incorporate these books throughout the entire school day. Many of the titles provide non-fiction information and character education skills. As an early elementary educator, an expectation through Social Studies and 21st Century standards are to develop students’ vocabularies, question and answering techniques, and citizenship qualities. Many of the fictional titles provide great discussion starters involving character education.
