In first grade, we do a lot of our learning on the floor. Little ones need to get away from their desks and chairs frequently in order to focus and do their best learning. Currently, my classroom has one old rug that seats about 16 students comfortably. Since I will be co-teaching in the fall with another teacher, we will need a rug that seats about 28 students, possibly more! My students love to sit in different spots around the classroom when they are doing their independent reading and classwork. I want places for them to sit where they can be happy and excited to learn, and where they can they can concentrate on the task at hand. We also do quite a bit of testing on the computer in first grade, and students can get quite antsy during those 30 minute sessions. I am hoping that the wiggle seats and bouncy chairs can keep them going strong on the tests all the way until the end.
