This is the ELA classroom for our school, and appropriately, it also functions as the school's library. Although it says in my profile that I teach 6th graders, my classes consist of 4th - 8th grade students, who learn in a mixed-class setting. We like learning at tables of different shape and sizes, rather than individual desks, because it makes group learning and collaboration much easier. As a teacher, it makes teaching feel more intimate, like a seminar, rather than a "teacher in front of a classroom" scenario. We use bright color into the room wherever we can: on the walls and desks. It makes for a much less institutional, and more home-like atmosphere. My students feel comfortable in this space. We play music, sometimes dance and often work very hard. Of all of the classroom spaces I have taught in, this room is, by far, my favorite. It was once the library, but it is now known as "Ms. Rogers' room".
