The students I work with are hardworking, kind and hopeful. Additionally, they are innovative problem solvers with a strong desire for influencing social change for a more equitable America. Last year's Art Curriculum was centered on social justice topics, allowing students opportunities to investigate personally relevant injustices and from there, explore and act out possible solutions. The majority of students are English Language Learners, which allows our classroom to become an arena for peers to learn about the world in a cross-cultural learning approach. Collectively students represent their home countries of Puerto Rico, Syria, Burma, Nepal, Thailand, Tibet, India, the Congo and the United States. More than 80% of the students receive free meals at school and are able to take additional food home with them on the weekends.
