The Land of Noz is a creative space where students recognize most of the time is spent in the PD Zone- Proximal Discomfort Zone. They know that if they are mentally comfortable- they probably aren't learning. Mental growth requires stretching and expanding their thinking. It's not about figuring out the right answers, but asking the right questions. It's not about the final grade, it's about how they got there. I am transitioning my teaching from traditional teacher led to putting the learning back into the hands of the learner. Putting the books back into the hands of the reader through student choice and voice. My students are so excited when they realize they get to read what they choose, not what I have mandated. Once upon a time, my kids were avid readers, but through the years of standardized testing that joy has been squashed out of them. I want them to fall back in book love.
