I work at a school that is 50 plus years old with books that are old and falling apart. My students need some new books for literature circles that are engaging and motivating. These books will allow me to work with a variety of students using a student centered approach similar to adult book clubs. When you think about book clubs, you think about talking, laughing and sharing thoughts and feelings about books you love. Why not recreate that with at-risk struggling students? I have chosen books that appeal to boys such as the highly popular "I Survived..." series and Frindle as well as books that are well loved by girls such as Esperanza Rising and Brown Girl Dreaming.
