Students should feel comfortable in their learning environment. It is my belief that it does not matter how or where you sit, but what you learn while you're there, that makes you the best you can be. Throughout the day, my students have the option to work in various places throughout our classroom. In order to make my classroom a more comfortable learning environment for my students, I need to add these seating options to my room. Specifically, during our Daily 5 Literacy block, students have the choice of where they want to sit to learn. During this time, students choose various literacy options for practicing fluency, reading comprehension, writing, and vocabulary. A large part of this literacy practice includes student choice of activity, as well as choice of where they wish to work in the classroom. This project will provide my students the opportunity to use beanbag chairs, stools, large floor pillows, or individual carpet squares in groups or individually throughout our classroom. By allowing students the choice of where to work and what to sit on, they are more likely to focus on their activity for an extended amount of time, therefore producing work at a higher quality than before. It is my hope that by adding these items to my classroom, students will have more options for places to work and focus independently.
