Reading is important, especially for English Language Learners. The primary language of most of my ELLs is Spanish. Literacy in a student's first language is a direct indicator of their achievement level in English literacy. Therefore, Spanish resources are critical for my students' success. If they are literate in their native language, they are more prepared to read and learn in a new language. I want to have books available for them to read in their Native Language. I also want to have the books for them to connect to their own country. I've chosen a variety of reading levels and genres for them to enjoy.
