Flexible Seating- it's a huge buzz, but why? Stop and imagine your work day. Are you able to chat with your coworkers when you need a break? Can you use the bathroom anytime you please? Can you go for a walk when you start to feel tired? These are normal things for an adult at work but we ask our kids to stay focused and engaged in their learning for extended periods of time. It's not possible. They need to move. "Brain breaks" are great and of course they are taken but some kids need more movement to activate their brain and keep them motivated. These stools allow them to move all day long without distracting their fellow classmates.
I teach kids with so many different needs and wants. There is actually an accommodation called "preferential seating" or "multiple breaks." I don't want any of my kids to feel singled out by this accommodation so flexible seating-the option to pick where you learn best- should be an accommodation for ALL kids. These stools give my kids the ability to wiggle and move the entire time they are sitting. It provides for them the movement adults get all day long.
