Part of redesigning my students' learning environment is the addition of flexible seating. To ensure that my students become college and career ready I must develop students who can work together. Flexible seating allows students to work in a learner-centered space that is more conducive to collaboration and inquiry-based learning. Collaborative groupings may go from just a couple students to many students in short periods of time. Flexible seating is not only more comfortable than traditional school seating but can also be moved and regrouped in a short amount of time. Flexible seating is also better than traditional seating in that it's more adaptable for different sizes of students. Offering my students flexible seating to create different learning spaces within my classroom will better meet their individual needs. We know that there is a connection between movement and brain development. My students need to be able to move while they work. The balance ball chairs and the KORE patented Wobble Chairs offer movement opportunities that traditional seating does not. Balance ball chairs also improve core strength and promote healthy posture while keeping the mind focused and engaging their bodies. The Wobble Chairs are perfect for perfect for children with ADD/ADHD as they provide an outlet for restlessness and extra energy which gets their blood flowing, providing additional oxygen to the brain thus enabling higher levels of learning. Flexible seating allows for more movement throughout the day.
