Much of our first grade furniture is falling apart. Many of our tables are too big which makes cooperative learning difficult. Smaller classroom tables will allow my students to increase interaction and cooperative learning. Students will be able to work closely with elbow and face partners. Students will have more success working as a team. I use a lot of cooperative learning to allow students not only to talk about the content but also to teach social skills of interacting, risk taking and teamwork skills. It is difficult to do this now, since our student tables are too large. Their partners are too far away to interact and there isn't room in the classroom for them to move.
