The flexible seating options will provide the physical needs/wiggles to assist my students to sit quietly and listen and complete independent work. These materials will not directly teach my students new skills, but they will help prime my students for learning in all content areas and with many daily living skills by staying focused. For example, while students are independently working, if they feel like they cannot stay focused due to excessive movement they can channel that movement in to one of these flexible seating options. The rock zen garden, Buddha board, and yoga cards can give them an option to clear their mind and regroup to continue to learn the content they chose to work on. Sometimes students tend to get overwhelmed or emotionally filled and need to take a break. These provide an option to regulate their emotions and mental state.
