While many of my students are diagnosed with attention difficulties, the use of flexible seating and grouping in my classroom goes well beyond that specific subset of students. Flexible seating options will help to empower all of my students by providing choice in the classroom. Students will be able to choose their own seating based on their own learning needs and styles. More specifically, if students feel they have a choice and control over their own learning environment, they will be more likely to engage with classroom activities--particularly reading! With these round tables and active learning stools, we'll be able to choose our own workspace. We also need regular chairs, bean bag seats, and balance balls. For many of our students, the school and classroom are the places where they feel the best about themselves and providing them with innovative and interesting options for learning to read will hopefully translate into a lifelong love of reading!
