The tragic play Oedipus the King is a great literary text for English learners. The play format requires that students practice speaking and gives them the opportunity to dramatize and practice pronunciation in the process. The essential questions of this text are enduring, applicable to other texts, and very accessible to teens. Finally, this particular translation is clear and eloquent, but the language is also within the reach of English language learners. I have taught this book to sheltered English learners before, and it was both fun and academically challenging to the students. I think it pairs very nicely with Hamlet, a core work for seniors in my district. However, my new school does not have a class set available so I am reaching out to Donors Choose. Thanks very much for considering my project!
